The Reason Evolution Korea Is Everyone's Obsession In 2024
Evolution KoreaFor a long time the Korean scientific community refrained from engaging with creationists, afraid that doing so might increase the credibility of the movement. The silence is no longer an alternative.
The STR has been battling to remove content from textbooks that explain evolution, including the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an early bird's ancestor. But this is merely one aspect of the evolution of the developmental paradigm.
What is Evolution?
Evolution is a scientific theory that explains the changes in the genetic traits of living organisms over time. The theory is based on fact that living things adapt to their environment which can result in changes in genes, or even entire genomes. Over many generations, these changes can lead to the emergence new species. The predominant theory of evolution is natural selection, which describes the process through which people with advantages survive and reproduce more frequently than those with disadvantageous characteristics. This variation in reproduction could, over time, lead to the development and emergence of new species.
The term "evolution" originates from the Latin word for unrolling or revealing. However, the concept itself has a myriad of meanings as it has taken form in the sciences and elsewhere. Early evolutionists such as Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predestined to change into a new species. Etienne Geoffroy St.Hilaire was Lamarck's embryologist student who coined the term "transmutation" to describe this idea. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833 challenged this notion and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the notion that species are evolving into new species in an orderly and predictable manner.
Recently, evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process that occurs when living things develop characteristics that increase their chances of survival, or their ability to reproduce offspring. In time, this genetic variability can result in the development of entirely new biological functions or physical traits in a population. Natural selection is the process that drives the most evolutionary changes. Other changes that aren't genetic, such as an increase in muscle mass from exercise or diet, can't be considered to be evolution since they aren't passed down to future generations.
Creationists have a tendency to use the argument that evolution is controversial, even though it has been proven to be accurate by thousands of scientific tests and it has been tested over time. They argue that the theory shouldn't be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists won a few victories over evolution in textbooks for high schools. This includes the removal of references about the evolutionary history of humans and Archaeopteryx which is a feathered dinosaur which is believed to be the ancestor of birds.
Why is Evolution Important for Humanity?
Evolution explains how the Earth and all its living species came to be. It is also one of the foundations of biology, and aids scientists understand how living things work and develop. Evolution also demonstrates how different species are interconnected. Scientists study evolution to better comprehend nature and make valuable discoveries, such as the development of new treatments.
The evidence for evolution is overwhelming. No other scientific theory can explain as much about the universe and life on earth. It has been rigorously studied and verified for many years. Many people, including religious leaders, support the theory of evolution as a scientific fact. It is important to note that evolutionary biology does not contradict religions, since the theory is based on objects, events and processes within the physical world.
Many religious people have come up with a way of reconciling evolution with their convictions. Certain Christians for instance believe that God created everything through evolution, and that humans share an ancestral connection to other animals.
It is important for scientists to stand up for the teaching of evolution. In certain countries, anti-evolution sentiment has been rising. In the United States, efforts to limit the teaching of evolution have made some progress in a few states. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC), is campaigning for textbooks that cover the evolutionary history of horses and their Avian ancestor Archaeopteryx.
It is crucial to keep in mind, however, that the evidence in support of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence comes from a broad variety of sources, including fossils, genetic studies and the behavior of living organisms. The evidence is also independently verified by other scientists.
The vast majority of scientists agree with the theory of evolution. The reasons behind this support are diverse. Some scientists study evolution to make practical discoveries for example, such as the development of treatments and other treatments, while others are driven by an interest in improving the quality of life for here animals and plant species, typically for the benefit of humans. Some are simply curious, while others have a profound faith in God and want to know how the universe works.
What is Creationism?
Creationists believe that God created everything in the universe. They also believe the Bible is God's word and should be believed to be true. While not all creationists are Christian but many are. Creationists are typically divided into two groups: Young Earth Creationists (YEC) or old earth creationists.
The most popular type of creationist is known as the YEC. They believe that God created the universe exactly in the way that is described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of the creation's six days is true and that the universe and life on Earth started only recently.
OECs might not be as well-known However, their beliefs are as intense as the YECs. OECs believe that the universe and life on Earth are billions of years old and they believe that evolution is an untruth.
Both types of creationism reject the notion that scientific principles like natural selection and abiogenesis can explain the origins of life on Earth. They claim that evolution is inconceivable because it would require miracles. The founders of modern scientific thought resisted miracles in fear that they would lose their credibility.
Some creationists accept naturalistic evolutionary as well as special creation and call their view “theistic evolution.†It is sometimes called "continuous creationism" or "evolution from created kinds." In this belief system, God creates the original species and allows them to evolve over time. Eventually the evolutionary changes produce new species that are like the original ones.
Others believe that God created the universe and all living things in a single event, referred to as the Great Flood. Creationists believe that all the original species were created at the same time and that they gradually evolved. They also deny the notion of abiogenesis, and argue that the self-replicating creation of organisms from nonliving matter is unattainable.
In general, the creationists are opposed to the teaching of evolution in schools. This is a position that is backed by a myriad of professional associations such as the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education and the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. However, certain scientists and educational institutions are more flexible and allow for the inclusion of creationism and evolution in their curricula.
What is Creationism?
When people think of the concept of creationism most often, they think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolution group. Publishers of high school textbooks have recently declared that they will be removing references to evolution from their editions. A group called the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an unofficial body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research and has been the driving force behind the move. The STR has scored its first victory by removing from textbooks evidence of the evolution and ancestor of an avian, the Archeopteryx. The next step is to remove the finch-research of Darwin's famed as well as on human evolution.
STR claims that it has the backing of 4,000 families as well as individual members. Its goal, it says, is to rid the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" that paints an image of students as being negative. It also seeks to counter the influence of American Creationists in the United States. A survey of undergraduates studying biology revealed that half of them did not believe evolution. The reasons for this aren't entirely clear, but could include religious beliefs or the lack of creation scientists in the US.
The KACR has achieved a number of things in the past through seminars and lectures. It publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and an ebook. One of them was a textbook on natural science with a creationist stance. It sparked interest in college communities. In 1991, a professor and minister began teaching Creation Science in one university, and it continues to be taught until today.
On August 6-7 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. The event was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from the world, including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish, and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of several thousand. KACR and its members have been delivering lectures on creation science in major seminaries too. KACR intends to establish a Creation Science Education Center.
